Christmas Event 2023

Curiouser and Curiouser

What an afternoon! The White rabbit was late and let us down by not knowing his lines. The choir sang their hearts out. Then, fortunately, Lionel Austin and his friends rescued the compering – Up, down, left, right etc. The first Mad Hatter's Tea Party was run by Tonbridge u3a eccentrics then some of Lewis Carrol's poems were read out. The day became even curiouser with the original poetry in the style of Lewis Carrol by the Poetry Writing Group. This was followed by the audience having an out of body (and out of chairs) experience known as Qi Gong. By this time the audience was getting warmed up (or not).

The madness continued with the Story Writing Group imagining Looking Glass like tales, followed by mid to late C19th marvels from the Industrial Heritage group.

Finally, the Art Viewing Group married the fantasies of Charles Dodgson and Salvador Dali. The second Mad Hatter's tea party, organised by the Events Team, provided much needed refreshments.

Over 200 people attended. There were also people watching on zoom. More photos can be seen on the Tonbridge u3a web site. Tonbridge u3a, run by the members for the members. Thanks to everyone

Various groups entertained us with singing, sketches, art and information all on the theme of Curiouser & Curiouser.

Geoff Collins captured these images during the afternoon.

Open Day 2021 Report

On 6 October from 2pm we held an Open Afternoon. It was an opportunity for non-members to find out about our groups and to chat with existing members. Many groups were represented ranged from Ambling to Tai Chi & Qi Gong. People were playing Canasta, Chess and musical instruments. For the best part of two hours there was a hum of enthusiastic people informing, enquiring and being together.

New members, and established members were able to talk to group leaders about joining their group. One of the London Walks group leaders said that she had had over twenty people showing definite interest. The afternoon also encouraged a good number of people to become members.

There were people there who have been members for a number of years and others who were recent converts. All had something to give and something to gain.  Thanks go to all members for the enthusiasm shown throughout the years.
