Celebrating 25 Years as a vibrant part of the Tonbridge community
A few pictures from our anniversary lunch
TU3A 25th Year celebration lunch
On 7 May, 114 members of Tu3a attended a re-run of the 2020 abandoned celebratory lunch at Salomons.
On the way to pre-lunch cocktails, pictures of many Tu3a activities and individuals could be seen, after which members sat down to a pleasant three-course lunch.
During the meal, slides were projected showing local scenes.
After lunch, the current Chair, Lionel Shields, gave an amusing address, a shortened version of which can be found elsewhere in this issue.
Following Lionel’s speech, Margaret Pavlidis, who has just retired after 25 years as a Trustee committee member, but is still an active Group Leader, gave a short talk on the founding of Tonbridge u3a. It was promoted by Magda Sweetland, at the time Chair of Sevenoaks u3a.
I then described some of the activities staged in 2010 for the 10th year celebrations during the time I was Tu3a Chair. One of these events was a performance of a musical pantomime, Alice in U3Aland, written by two of our members, and I persuaded those present to enter into a repeat of a number of the specially written songs set to well-known tunes.
Finally, Rosemary Doel said a few words on her time as past Chair (6 of whom were present at lunch) and how important Tu3A was to its members.
I would like to echo Lionel’s thanks to the organisers, particularly Joan Webb, Frani Hoskins, and Doug Gardner, for a very successful event.
